20. The Man Who Knew too Much (1956)

Hitchcock remakes his own 1934 film of the same name. This time he has Jimmy Stewart and Doris Day to play with.

19. The Ring (2002)

Strong American update of 1998’s Ringu out of Japan. The lovely Naomi Watts stars.

18. The Magnificent Seven (1960)

Another remake of a Japanese classic, 1954’s The Seven Samurai which is one of the greatest movies ever made. This movie has an incredible cast.

Donald Sutherland stars in a remake of the 1956 film of the same name.

Not an official remake but so what. It copies 1961’s Yojimbo out of Japan. A must for fans of spaghetti westerns.

A remake of Wes Craven’s 1977 film of the same name, this one is an intense balls to the wall exercise in sadistic violence.

Probably not as good as the 1962 original, but still fun to watch thanks to Robert De Niro’s over the top performance.

Easily the best update to the 1933 classic.

Another unofficial remake of 1961’s Yojimbo, the filmmakers were successfully sued. Clint Eastwood is badass as the man with no name.

Another remake directed by William Friedkin is this update on France’s 1953 film The Wages of Fear. This is one of the most intense movies ever made.

3. The Thing (1982)

It blows away 1951’s The Thing from Another World.

2. The Departed (2006)

An American remake of 2002’s Hong Kong hit, Infernal Affairs. Hey, it’s Scorsese and Boston.
